The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association – Promoting Safe Baby Cribs

Safe baby cribs are important for people to find in that these products will be where their babies will be spending much of their times sleeping. There is a company that helps to make sure that baby cribs that are put on the market are safe and that ones that are not can be recalled. This group is the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, or JPMA.

Formed in 1962, the JPMA works as a trade organization working with hundreds of companies throughout North America. The group works with these companies to help set up safety regulations and guidelines for products that are made for babies and small children. Baby cribs are among the most common products that are handled through the JPMA, but car seats and bedding are also handled by the JPMA. As the mission statement of the JPMA states, the group works to “advance the interests, growth and well-being of the juvenile products industry.”

About three hundred different groups are represented through the JPMA. A full list of these groups can be found on the JPMA website at jpma.org.

All products that are made by the groups that have associations with the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association go through certification. All products made are tested independently to help make sure that the products comfort with the JPMA's regulations. For baby cribs tests include durability tests and flammability tests. Checking the materials to see that paints do not crack and that there are no rough edges on the crib are also used. Safe baby cribs with JPMA certification will have no bumpers that feel like pillows, and there are no cutout areas at the footboard or headboard.

The logo of the JPMA can be found on packaging for products that have been approved by the group. This logo is a lavender logo with a circular parent figure protecting a small child figure. The JPMA letters should be on the logo as well.

The JPMA also works with governmental agencies to report any dangers in any products that have gone on sale and to report them as items that need recalls. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is online at cpsc.gov, works with the JPMA to help keep consumers updated on any recalls that are done on any products for babies. These include baby cribs that could break easily.

The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association is a group that works hard to protect babies and to give their parents security of the products that they use. Safe baby cribs and various other products are protected through the JPMA, and in the event that any dangers are found recalls are provided by the JPMA so that everyone can know what to do. The group is important in that it helps to add to the safety that people have for their babies.
